Ranveer Singh says he took a lot of time to say yes to play Alauddin Khilji in ‘Padmavati’
Ranveer Singh, who is soaring high in his career, opened up about his upcoming film ‘Padmavati’ and how he is indebted to Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The actor in an interview with Filmfare magazine revealed that he took a lot of time to say yes to play the character of Alauddin Khilji in ‘Padmavati’. “I’m s**t scared. I’m playing an anti-hero. Only when I see the film, will I be able to assess my character. It’s a risky move for me. That’s why I took so much time to sign it,” he said.
Further, he added that it was a difficult decision for him to play a grey character like that.”For a mainstream leading man to make a choice like this at this stage is dicey. It’s a despicable character. He’s mean. One of my seniors, and who I believe is one of the greatest actors of all time, advised me to be careful. She told me the Indian audience is naïve. If they love a character, the love will transfer to the actor who played it. In this case, if they hate my character, the hate will be transferred to me,” he said.
Talking about his collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali he said that he cannot refuse the filmmaker because what he is today is because of SLB’s films. “He gave me ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela – Ram-Leela’ at a time when my career wasn’t going great guns. He had me play Bajirao in ‘Bajirao Mastani’, a character that was ahead of my years. I’m indebted to him as an artiste. He has pushed my boundaries and got the best out of me,” the ‘Gunday’ actor said.
‘Padmavati’: Shahid Kapoor feels his role was underplayed in the trailer?
The trailer of ‘Padmavati’ has earned praises from all quarters, including the Bollywood film industry and many regional film industry giants. While everyone was unanimously in awe of Ranveer Singh’s character and Deepika Padukone’s beauty, Shahid Kapoor’s character too was lauded. However, if reports are anything to go by, then it looks like the actor is not impressed with how the trailer turned out.
According to reports, Sasha feels that his role of Raja Rawal Ratan Singh was “underplayed” in the trailer. He also expressed that the audience should watch the entire film before judging his role in it. However, he did add that he has full trust in the creative abilities of his director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Shahid said that all calls taken on the film are Sanjay’s and that he has given his two hundred percent for the magnum opus.
Talking about the violent protest against the film, he added that releasing it properly is now the top priority. Shahid also said that it is “a great cinematic experience” and that it has been made keeping everybody’s point of view.
‘Padmavati’ is all set to release on 1st December.
Deepika Padukone urges Smriti Irani to take action against ‘Padmavati’ vandals
In a recent turn of events, Deepika Padukone, lead star of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next titled ‘Padmavati’ has broken her silence on the vandalism surrounding the film’s release based on the life of Rani Padmini from Chittor.
The actress taking to her Twitter handle condemned the ongoing vandalism against the film and has also gone ahead to urge Broadcast Minister Smriti Irani to put an end to this. Here’s what she said, “Absolutely heart breaking to see the recent attack on artist Karan and his artwork!disgusting and appalling to say the least! Who are these people?Who is responsible for their actions? For how long are we going to let this go on? Allow them to take law into their own hands & attack our freedom & right to individual expression time & again!? This has to stop NOW & action must be taken!@smritiirani.”
Amidst all the awe and applause, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming period drama ‘Padmavati’ was in for more trouble by the Rajput Karni Sena. Karni Sena allegedly stated that they will not allow distorted facts to be shown in the film at any cost, and will see to it that the film is not screened in half of India. According to them, the filmmakers have tried to defame Padmavati by distorting historical facts.
Early this year, members of the Rajput fringe group reportedly disrupted the film’s shoot in Jaipur, vandalized the sets and manhandled Mr Bhansali. After the incident, SLB shifted the shooting destination to a place near Mumbai’s Film City.
